95% GREEN; A PLACE FOR REHABILITATION
The project provides a tailored nature in which plants, animals and architecture work in a synchronised system, but with the green as the weighted majority, 95%. Set within a recovering post-industrial landscape, the strategy takes you into a planted forest, along a canal and through at all levels a Deck.
It is liberated by the notion of nature constantly being the majority and architecture the minority. Placing a sense of comfort and healing in the unknown, in surrendering to idea of loss and being lost. The Canal has a controlled tempo that slowly flows giving focus to the idea of growth and change but it is precisely within that helplessness that our sensitivity and connection to Nature is located.
Somewhere between the scale of the individual, the deck and the forest there is a synonymously in the experience of rehabilitation. The rehabilitation centre is surrounded by nature which grows cleaner through the cycle of planting. The intent is for the individual to experience the calmness that accompanies regrowth. Perhaps this contingency on circumstances can give clarity to how a deck embedded in a recovering landscape can be delightful.
The scale of the individual and the river edge provides a solitude within nature. Covered and encapsulated whilst still free. There is a sense of privacy and care that perhaps connects the privacy of nature to the interior spatial qualities of a rehabilitation centre. how can architecture mediate with the landscape where it is not overbearing but rather invites the individual to experience an enduring intimacy with nature. Ultimately providing a sense of wellness and rehabilitation
